Tire Fire Clean-Up

Recycling Facility

  • Tire Fire Clean-Up

Location:  Watertown, WI

Project Summary:

A large tire recycling facility had a catastrophic fire, burning down the facility and over 200,000 tires (largest tire fire in Wisconsin history).    Environmental impacts from the fire were quickly characterized on-site by NSEC, a remedial action plan was developed by NSEC and approved by state regulators for immediate remedial action.  Emergency planning was key to this project in order to conduct the work safely and have specialized equipment needed to complete the waste removal on an expedited schedule to meet state regulatory requirements.  Approximately 11,000 tons of fire-associated waste was excavated and transported to a local Subtitle D landfill for disposal. The remedial action was coordinated with the WDNR and EPA emergency response team.  NSEC completed the response action in 20 working days.

Project was completed for a tire recycling company.
