Project Summary:
North Shore Environmental Construction conducted a variety of remedial services for a chemical manufacturer. After removing a neutralization tank under the concrete floor within the plant, the surrounding soil, which was radioactively contaminated, had to be removed, screened and containerized. Other contaminated areas within the plant also required removal of the floor and subsurface fill material. Certain drainage pipes, both exposed and subsurface, containing radioactive waste material, had to be carefully removed. Other areas in and around the facility contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were excavated and disposed of. All work was coordinated to keep the facility operational. Much of the work was completed by hand due to the very limited space.
